2014 CEA Veteran’s Volunteer of the Year Awards

Congratulations to Don and Eileen Tozzo! These two members of Hamden Lodge were recently honored at the Connecticut Elks Association 2014 Convention as recipients of the prestigious Veteran’s Volunteer of the Year Award. Chosen from nominees throughout Connecticut Lodges, an award is given each to a male and a female volunteer, who has shown dedication and commitment to Veterans. Both have lived by the Elks motto, “So Long As There Are Veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Will Never Forget Them.” Hamden Lodge is proud of the dedication and commitment to Veterans shown by Don and Eileen as active Elks Members. Organizing and participating in numerous fundraisers and dinners to benefit the Hamden Lodge Veteran’s fund; having collaborated with local organizations such as Post 88, Governor’s Foot Guard and Hamden Veteran’s Coalition to raise funds and awareness for projects such as American Warriors and Fisher House to accommodate families of those receiving treatment at the West Haven VA Hospital, to name a few.

2013 Rocky Hill Veteran’s Donation

In remaining true to their motto, “So long as there are Veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them,” Hamden Lodge 2224 recently remembered our Veterans at both The West Haven and Rocky Hill Veterans Hospitals with donations to provide services for those who served. Hamden Lodge, serving Hamden and North Haven since 1961, is dedicated to youth scholarship, sports and drug prevention programs, patriotism, service to our hospitalized veterans, and raising funds for national and local charities. Hamden Elks members Eileen Tozzo, Hamden Elks Veterans Co-chair Donald Tozzo, and Jane Park present a donation to Linda Schwartz, Commissioner of Veterans Affairs at the Rocky Hill Veteran’s Home. This donation will be used to provide services to our older and returning veterans and their families.

2013 West Haven Veteran’s Hospital Donation

In remaining true to their motto, “So Long As There Are Veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Will Never Forget Them,” Hamden Lodge #2224 recently made donations of $500 to the West Haven and Rocky Hill Veterans Hospitals.

Hamden Elks members Eileen Tozzo, Hamden Elks Veterans Co-chair Donald Tozzo, and Jane Park present a donation to Mike Rose, Chief of Recreation & Creative Arts Therapy at the West Haven Veteran’s Hospital. This donation will be used in the arts therapy program for visually impaired veterans at the Hospital.

2013 DECA Veteran’s Donation

Hamden High School DECA raises money and awareness for Veterans Charities Hamden High School Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) members raised funds and awareness for two veterans’ charities as part of their 2012-13 Community Service Project. Several fundraising events were held, with proceeds of over $1,700 to benefit American Warrior, which organizes “Day of Honor” trips to send WWII Veterans who have not seen the WWII Memorial to Washington, D.C. and The Fisher House CT, a “home away from home” to provide shelter and support for military families of veterans while facing medical crisis and undergoing treatment of which plans are underway to build on the campus of the Veterans Affairs Hospital in West Haven. During the past several years, Hamden American Legion Post 88, the 2nd Company Governor’s Foot Guard and Hamden Elks Lodge 2224 have been soliciting and coordinating local fundraising efforts for both of these worthy Veterans charities.
