Elks Curran Scouting Awards Presented at Local and State Levels

Hamden Lodge’s Robert T. Curran Memorial Award for Excellence in Scouting was initiated in 2009 in honor and memory of Hamden Lodge member “Bob” Curran for his commitment to Scouting. This year’s Curran award was presented to Hamden Scout Katie Skeeles and North Haven Scout Kasey Colette Jacobs for their achievements in Scouting, which includes receiving their Gold Awards, one of Scouting’s highest honors.
The Connecticut Elks Association Robert T. Curran Memorial Scholarship was presented during the awards ceremony recently held at the Connecticut Elks Convention in Sturbridge, MA to Victoria Farrell
of Wallingford. Victoria’s Gold Award Project is a program designed to educate about the prevention of Type 2 Diabetes in young people. Qualifying applicants must have completed their Gold award by April 1, 2012 and be a high school senior.

Robert Curran, Life Member of the Hamden Elks Lodge loved the Elks and loved the Scouts. He was a Boy Scout since 1948, an Elk since 1964 and an honorary Scout since 2001. He was recipient of the Marvin Lewis Award for Boy Scouts and the GSUSA Pin of Honor for the Girl Scouts. Prior to his passing, he was Elks Scouting Coordinator for the Connecticut State Elks Association. Hamden Lodge takes great pride in supporting Scouting, which is an important part of the Grand Lodge Youth Activities Program.
